Garnets are gems that come in a wide variety of colors, and it was once said that they existed in almost every color except blue. However, blue garnets do actually exist, and this color-changing garnet is known as Bekily blue.

The name comes from the Bekily mine in Madagascar where it was discovered in the late 1990s, but as it is not an official gemological name, it is not listed on identification reports.

Because it possesses a color-change effect similar to alexandrite, it is sometimes referred to as "alex-type garnet."

It has a beautiful teal blue hue, but a distinctive feature is the flashes of red that appear from within the stone when exposed to sunlight or strong light.
