Garnets are gems with a diverse range of colors, and it was once believed that they existed in almost every color except blue. However, blue garnets do in fact exist, and these are the color-change garnets known as Bekily Blue.

They were named after the Bekily mine in Madagascar, where they were discovered in the late 1990s. However, since it is not an official gemological name, it is not listed on appraisal reports.

Due to their color-changing effect, which is similar to alexandrite, they are sometimes called "alex-type garnets."

While they exhibit a beautiful teal blue color, their distinctive feature is the shimmering red that can be seen from within the stone when exposed to sunlight or strong light.
