This antique ring dates from the Victorian era (1837-1901), considered the golden age of Britain.

It features slightly purplish garnets, deep green emeralds, and a plump natural pearl in the center—very old gemstones are used.

The back of the ring has a compartment, a design very popular in England during this period.

It was only in modern times, partly due to De Beers' promotions, that diamonds attained their status as the "king of gemstones." In the world of antique jewelry, colored stones were the mainstream.

Beautiful colored stones are far rarer than diamonds, and opportunities to find a colored stone you love are few and far between.

Although the hallmark is not clearly legible, it is likely from Birmingham in 1869.
