Garnets are gemstones that come in a wide variety of colors, and it was once said that they could be found in almost every color except blue. However, blue garnets actually do exist, and this color-changing garnet is known as Bekily blue.

It was named after the Bekily mine in Madagascar where it was discovered in the late 1990s, but because this is not an official gemological name, it is not recorded on appraisal reports.

Due to its color-change effect, which resembles that of alexandrite, it is sometimes called "alex-type garnet."

It has a beautiful teal blue hue, but it is characterized by the way flashes of red appear from within the stone when exposed to sunlight or strong light.
